igniton problem?????
i have a 94 camaro z28, Ok for a couple months my ignition has been getting hard to turn, last night got in turned key and nothing except radio came on no dash light. so i waited like 5-10 mins tried it again. had a long crank then started. Then went to get gas tried to start and nothing again. nothing comes on but the radio when you turn the key on i've checked a fuses. but i was wondering if my ignition gave out i don't know someone help
does everything go off when u try to start it. clean the connections at the battery and i dont think its it but did u check all the fuses in the power box under the hood. black box.
i've checked all the fuses, i already cleaned the battery terminals. everything works in the car except the dummy light and gauges when you turn the key on and no start,no crank, i can't even here the fuel pump come on
Sounds like your ignition switch/lock cylinder area could be the problem, especially if you said that it seemed tight before the problem started. It wouldn't hurt to try a different key like craby said to save some disassembly time. It may be time to get the volt meter out to test ignition switch outputs.
I am currently having a similiar problem with my '97. Has anyone determined a fix for this issue? Here is my earlier post:
Hello everyone, I have a '97 Camaro RS that has been sitting in my driveway for three weeks. I am at a lose and have exhausted all troubleshooting efforts. When you turn the key to the the start position, the car will not start. For some reason, the starter solenoid is not receiving a signal to turn the engine. Here is a small example of my troubleshooting efforts:
1. Replaced ignition lock cylinder.
2. Replaced key with correct resistor value.
3. Replaced VATS relay.
4. Replaced body control module (very expensive).
5. Checked all the fuses.
When I turn the key to the start position, I can hear the fuel pump and that's about it. The engine will not start. I believe the problem is electrical in nature and unfortunately I'm just not that familiar with the layout of the car. At first and for about two days, the problem was intermittent. If anyone can offer any advise, I would greatly appreciate it. This problem has got me stumped.
