How to identify which rear end carrier I have?

a complete 342 rearend will be easier to find than a 373, just buying the ring and pinion and installing is easier than it sounds, for a inexperienced gear man its real easy to mess up a good rearend. best to pick up a complete rearend at a wrecking yard and switch and that is what you will want to try to do. call around and see what your local wrecking yards have available and cost. to have your ring and pinion changed at a good shop will run in the range of 400 bucks give or take 50. im thinking 250 for a used one. look for a low mileage unit.

Im probably just gonna have em swapped. I know a few local guys that build race cars and I trust them enough to swap the gears.

sounds good. if you drive on the highway alot go with 342's.
