high stall converter

high stall converter
I just installed a 2500rpm converter on my 94z28. It went in fine, and felt like it locked in. So i went ahead and hooked everthing up. Then i read that i need to hear a series of 3 "clicks" until the converter fully engages. so i went back and tried turning it clockwise (like the book said) but heard nothing. Is there any other way to check to make sure the converter is on correctly?

RE: high stall converter
I am not sure what kind of trans you have or converter. I have a powerglide with a 10 in TCI 3400 stall. I have never heard a clicking sound when I put a converter on. I just turn the converter untill I feel it slip on and bottom out on the pump shaft. I guess it should be about two in. inside of the bell housing . The most important thing to watch for is that your converter has room between it and the flexplate when you are installing the trans.I do two things. 1 I try to turn the converter after I have all the trans bolts (FINGER TIGHT). 2 you can use a set of feeler gauges . AS you tighten the bolts a little at a time keep checking your clearence. You want to take your time and tighten each bolt about the same.keeping your trans even with the block. If your conveter pushes agains the flexplate at anytime. you will have to pull it back out and try to get the converter to go in the trans more. Hope this helps some.
