heads, AFR VS LT4
I have been looking around at some heads and what not. let me know what you all think here.
the numbers on the heads are all pretty much the same other than the CFM and combustion chambers. the AFRs will do raise compression do to the smaller CCs. the CFM is only a few hundred different.
The LT4 kit is 3k, that with heads and all that. the ARFs are 2k from AFR directly and 1.5k ish from a dealer. now my plans where originally a 383 LT4 with 292 comp cam. (i am aware of clearance issue with that) but i started to think if i was going to do a major build should i get the AFRs, if i get the AFRs i dont need the full LT4 kit. so now i buy a 3k kit and not use the most expensive component? or do i just use the LT4 heads....or get the AFRs and buy the parts one at a time....ugh...you see my issue.
Any help you can throw down will be great. I want to build a monster street car that i can take to the track and all that. im not stressing emissions, always ways around it.
plan was more or less, 383 LT4 292 comp cam, going to use scorpion rockers, reuse and machine my old block. what brands for other parts are good IE fuel injectors, throttle body etc.

I don't know if this is much help...
but I've been looking at the different heads and cams, too. If you use the AFR heads, you have to use the LT4 intake manifold. I havent heard anything bad about AFR so far, but not that many people know about them. The biggest heads I've seen so far from AFR are 227cc, which is more than what you would need on the street. LT4 heads are 10.4:1 compression. With the cam you are wanting to get, I would go with AFR 210cc heads, which will leave you room to spray or supercharge if you wanted to. With those heads, you would need to go with a BBK 58mm throttle body. When you order your intake, be sure to order the intake for a 58mm throttle body. I'm still researching the injectors.. I should be able to reply to that later on. Hope this was some help.

lt4 kit is not worth it. from lloyd elleott, for less than 2k you can get (le2) one of the best p&p jobs in the country (bigger valves, springs, retainers etc) and get your intake p&p'd and pick a cam that fits your needs. http://www.elliottsportworks.com/

From the research iv'e been doing and from personal experience with afr heads ford only
Go big with afr I used 205's on a 11.1 306 with a 562/593 with 246/257 on a 112 lobe and I drove 8 yrs with that mess but it was fun and trouble free
Now back to heads. Goals and future planning needs to be accounted for
If you are happy with 400hp-500 a stock head done right with matching cam will do it you can even drop the compression and go turbo/sc and still make awesome power
Outside of that 22+cc head for a 383 would be advised. I'm not sure what afr or trickflow has done about the push rod. Pinch area where aparently is the weakest link to stock heads. But outside of rhs
