Unhappy haha wow..differential problems

So I took out the camaro out on a nice day today and when I got on it in first gear I heard a snap and then somethin in my drivetrain start clattering and clanking...great.

I get it about 3 miles while in clanks around (very very loud).. thought u joints at first.. but the noise is comin from differential.. its got worse and now clunks extremely hard and loud.. (not really drivable)..so now I'm thinkin the spider gears =( what do u guys think?

yep sounds like you busted something. is this a posi rear end? auto or manual trans? if its the rearend you can pick up a good used one just change the whole unit. its easier and can be less costly than having it repaired. thats if you take the old one out and put the good one in. changing parts in the rearend is very sensitive and unforgiving to misstakes. doesnt take much and all the work is toast in a short time. try to find a 342 posi.

ya its a 6spd manual. Im pretty sure its posi but dont really know..

Now that ive looked at it ive either busted up the whole differential and need a new/used one or maybe its just my ring and pinions.. if thats it though this thing is gettin 4:11s =D It will be waay fast when im done lol.

It will not be fast it will be quick. The lower the ratio (higher numbers) the quicker the car will be, but the lower top end you will have. The higher the ratio (lower numbers) the faster you will be but not as quick. There is a give and take for all of this. Now GM has been doing this stuff for a while and they picked gearing that gives us the best of both worlds, that is why the 3:43's are the lowest gears we get (that and gas mileage)

lol fast/quick.. same thing. I know what ur sayin tho. 0-50 will be killer. I have always thought about 3:73s for that reason, being a good inbetween ratio. But the more i look at it its about 95% and 5% highway. Since ive owned it ive went out of town twice (one being a 25 mile trip, and another being a 120 mile trip). So i figure since i only usually race in town.. why not?
