Default Grinding Noise

When I let off the clutch in first gear from a stop if I don't let off the clutch just right it makes a grinding noise. Any ideas on what might be causing this?

It might be clutch chatter. Mine does that sometimes. I'm pretty sure that is what it is and I've had my car for 5 years now and the clutch has never slipped but it has always done that. I here some performance clutches do that brand new. Like craby said, nice lookin car. My 93 Looks like that and somebody put the white stripes on it.

Its a 94 6 speed. It only happens when I let off the clutch and it doesn't jump or shimmy or do it when shifting into 2nd. It has caused any problems its just kind of annoying but if it's just clutch chatter then I won't worry about it. Thanks for the info

With clutch chatter, you would feel the car and/or the shifter shake, and you may also feel it in the clutch pedal.
If you're getting a "crunch" when you shift, that could be the syncros going bad, or even the trans oil needing to be changed.

Yeah, I can feel it "vibrate" in my pedal and the shifter a bit when I let the clutch out. It's done that every since I've owned it, but it doesnt seem to hurt performance any.

The clutch probably either got overheated once upon a time, or the disk could be on it's way out. Does it slip any if you do any "performance" shifts?

I haven't noticed any slipping and it doesn't vibrate at all when it makes the grinding noise so i don't think its clutch chatter. I was told that 1st gear and reverse share the same synchro and if thats true then I think it's a bad synchro cuz I have a hard time shifting into reverse sometimes, so I am gonna check that out. Thanks for the input
