i have a 94 z28 and this winter i am debating whether i should make the car carbuerated. it would be easier to tune and i read that it gets more HP just after the convertion. i would plan on dropping somewhere between 500 and 1000 bucks into it. what do you guys think? is it worth it or not? thanks

most will tell you it's a foolish notion. but i won't lol, but unless your gonna add some internal mods i would'nt be expecting anymore horsepower. infact your probably gonna loose some if all your gonna do is put a carb. another thing is your not gonna be able to just put a carb. you will have to put a standalone distributor as well.
now if we are talking a mild cam, some headers, and MSD pro-billet distributor and a decent size holley you could possibly add some horsepower. im must tell you that whatever performance part you buy your gonna spend 200 bucks or more. from my own experience i can tell you a thousand bucks isn't gonna take you far in building a motor. if it was me? i would take my thousand and have the block bored put new rings, pistons, oil pump and bearings, have the heads rebuilt, then put your carb, distributor, and maybe headers. the refurbishing of the block and heads is gonna make it run like new. the carb, distrib, and headers will give you some extra decent horsepower gains. good luck. sick

thanks man. i am definantly putting one of the biggest cams in it and that is the main reason why i wanted to. i already have headers and i was told that edelbrock makes many conversion parts for it. i am jsut gonna look around and start adding up some price tags for everything. Thanks again

If you are going to stay with the LT1 block, I suggest you keep the FI. The LT1 can be carburated but there are too many other issues involved, such as the timing cover mounted distributor that needs a computer to work, reverse cooling, etc. Working with FI isn' much different than working with a carburator, if you don't know what you are doing neither one will work right. You can tune the PCM using a laptop and a tuning program such as LT1 Edit, and adjust fuel mixture, ignition timing, shift point, transmission line pressure, and most everything else, by just plugging in into the ALDL port and never get your habds dirty. You can make a ton of power, by replacing heads, cam, inatke manifold, loong tume exhhausts, CAI and a good PCM tune. LT1 specialists, such a Llod Elliot can provide you a matched set of ported heads and matching cams.
