is this a good idea
ive been looking into replacing my existing engine in my 83 camaro to a LS1 engine from the 98 to 02 camaros. is this a good idea and will it work? and also when looking for a transmission (i would prefer a manual) should i get the one to match the LS1 or should i get another one? I will be modding the engine to push around 450 horses with the help of a few friends cuz im not too good when it comes to things like that so i was just wondering if that transmission (not sure the number of it) from the LS1 camaro would be able to hold that much power
thanks for the help

RE: is this a good idea
the transmission ( assuming your talking about the t-56) will be fine. on fbodymotorsports.com there is a listing of some of the parts needed to make the swap happen. with that much power, you may want to look into a set of subframe connectors. they are cheap and help a lot with twisting and your launch.

yup. lots of parts you'll need. stay away from fbodymotorsports.com uless you live in the area and can pick your stuff up. hawksthirdgenparts.com has all the stuff you need and they have great customer service. there are a lot of things needed for this swap but you'll love it when its done. i'd do it if i had the cash.

the trans will have to match the engine , the LS1 will make LOADS more power than a T5 can hold. the only factory 5 speed that wouold hold the power is the world class T5 and they are getting hard to find. best to get engine/trans/harness/ and comp from the same car (i.e. a wreck car)

yea i kinda guessed i would need a lot of parts considering the car is old and was driven by an old lady and wasnt taken care of that well and not to mention it was a 4 cylinder so swaping engines would rip the car apart with that much power with all of theparts in it now but i think im gonna get the engine and the transmission at u-pull-it in hazelton - im not sure if that would be my best bet but i know its the cheapest so as long as it runs then ill take what they give me cuz i can always order parts to rebuild if needed. thanks for the help guys
