Good Deal???
Hey guys, I am wondering if you guys think this a good deal. I have a 1999 Grand Prix GTP supercharged with mods and a new tranny w/ 140K mi. I am looking at this Camaro Z28 LT1 at a dealership, it has a rebuilt tranny with 165K mi.. They made me an offer for an even swap. My only concern is the life of this motor, I am sure it has been hot rodded to hell because the guy who had it straight piped it and little worthless mods. Do you guys think this is a good deal???
what year is the Z28? You have to realize that when you do an even swap with a dealer you are coming out as the looser. The dealer is in business to make money, he will give you less than what your trade in is worth, and charge more than it is worth for what he is selling you. There is nothing illegal or unethical about it, that is the nature of the business, so be aware. As the Romans used to say "caveat emptor". I would sell the GTP and get its true worth, and then go out and look for a good Z28, preferably an LS1.
no, dont do it, you can get that camaro for around 3-4k in excellent condition with those miles, your gtp being much newer could easily get 6-7k for the gtp at a dealership.
besides the injectors being a lower volume, the computers only work from a chip, that if you want to mod it will be much harder to program than ODB1 wich started in 94, along with bigger injectors.

As 94z28shaker indicated, your GTP is worth a lot more than a 93 Camaro. Also, the 93 was the first year for gen 4 and it wasn't quite right, and many changes were made on later years, which among others included brakes, connecting rods, fuel injection, cooling, and ignition. As far as speed density, this is a part of all gen 4 cars (MAP sensor) but the 94s and later also incorporated a MAF sensor, which allows better A/F ratio control, and allow for a number of mods to be done without having to recalibrate the PCM.
