Default Gathering the pieces

Ok so I know there is a ton of posts about cam swaps and I used to have a page bookmarked that pretty much had all the info I needed but then I got a new phone and forgot to retrieve my old bookmarks. Anyway I'm planning on doing a cam swap hopefully this summer and I want to go ahead and start gathering the parts now. I found a new cam someone poseted on craigslist near me he says the specs are 231/239 and .622/.609 with 1.6 rockers. I'm building my daily so I don't want anything too aggressive or too much of a choppy idle. I just want to have a little more fun with a mild idle. I already have cat back and intake. I'm going to end up putting on longtubes, new springs, 1.6 roller rockers, lifters, and push rods. So really what I'm asking is if the craigslist cam is around what I'm looking for or what I should be looking for?

you look at lloyds site LT1 Cam Info « that is a healthy cam. looks like a stall and lower gears would be a good idea with it.

Well that's awesome haha that's the page I used to have bookmarked, and my car is a m6 with the stock gears, should be 342 gears right? Also he's gonna sell me the headers and cam for 420. Pacesetter longtubes with no emission crap.

You don’t have a M6, You have either a M28 or a M29 Your 93 could have 2:73 or 3:23 depending which trans you have. M6 is 94-up

Lift and duration alone is not a good way to know how a cam is going to act. The type of lift plays a big part in how the cam acts. The seller should have a make/model number of the cam. Then just look it up. A used roller CAM are not a great idea. The Cam gets wear based on the position and type of lifters, you put a used cam in a different motor now the position of the new wear pattern can conflict with the old wear pattern and they can fail pretty quickly.

Edit: here are the specs, You want to be sure you don't have the M28 beofe you start adding a bunch of HP.

That cam in the OP is a pretty choppy custom grind based off the card. Unless you find some self aligning rockers you'll need guideplates and some poly locks too.

Gorn the m6 is just a designation for a 6 speed. All cars have the borg warner t56s but the m29 is the rpo code

Ha I just assumed the M6 was short for MN6 I never even thought of the M6= manual 6 speed. I am a moron.

As a general rule M29 where the option with M28 as the standard. The M29 was standard on the TransAm.

Haha it took me a few threads before I realized m6 was for manual 6 speed. Also I went ahead and bought the cam and headers, the cam is brand new but he gave me a little better deal for both since the headers were scraped up a little. I was kinda worried about the cam being a little excessive for what I want but I figured for the price I may find someone who would want to trade cams or buy it from me.

Craby, Why not 1.6 rockers? What would you suggest instead?

Also Socom why would I need self aligning rockers or guideplates and poly locks for this cam?

This is gonna be the first cam I've ever put in, I know I can do the job I just don't know exactly what should be used with each cam. So what would be different about this cam that I wouldn't be able to use 1.6 rockers or that I would need self aligning? Me doing this is honestly more of just for the challenge and to say I know I can do something like this than it is to get more power, although that never hurts haha.

using 1.5 roller rockers will calm that cam a bit. stock is 1.5. non aligning roller rockers will fit better and imo work better, they require guide plates. you will need better valve springs and retainers to go with the cam as well.
