Fuel Injectors
I've been having problems with popping in the exhaust, a really strong exhaust smell in the exhaust, and thin oil from what I think it fuel. We did a fuel pressure test yesterday and when the fuel pump is primed it gets to 40 or so psi, but it bleeds off very quickly. Got to about 7 psi in 30 seconds. Today we pulled the fuel rail, and when the key is turned to on, without starting the car, the fuel injectors spray. Is this normal?
With the engine stopped there should be no fuel out of the injectors. If they are all leaking there may be an electrical problem causing the injectors to stay open. Pull the two injector fuses and see if the problem persists. If only some of the injectors are leaking, then they should be changed or repaired. You can replace individual injectors, but chances are the outputs won't be matched, and the engine won't run as well as it could. A better choice would be to replace them all with new ones, or have the entire set cleaned and tested by an injector rebuilder.
