Default fuel gauge problem

Just recently got a 94 Z28 and lovin it. the problem i have is fuel gauge doesnt work and just sits past full, even when ive been running the gas down. and there is no gas light. is this the sending unit in the tank or is there something wrong with my gauges, because it always says im low on oil even after i just got an oil change and it doesnt leak...but the others work fine. i was going to calculate all the miles, and do the math but its hard when i cruise around at crazy speeds and rev my engine like im king kong, you know? so can anyone help me here? would it be easier just to relink the gauge to another gauge?

The fuel level sender is in the tank. There is no oil level gage, but there is an oil pressure gage. There is, however, a low oil level light. If the oil level light goes on and the dipstick shows the proper level, there is nothing to really worry about, but the oil level sender attached to the oil pan is probably bad or the wire is grounded. If the oil pressure gage shows low oil pressure, it should be investigated and the oil pressure checked with a test gage, so that you know if there is a gage problem or an engine problem.

thats what i meant pressure, i was thinking fuel when i said oil.lol but yea, the oil isnt a problem, after a few minutes driving it goes to where it should be its just at start up.
i was talking about the fuel gauge if its the gauge, the fuel pump/sender unit, or maybe the wire in the gauge, etc

If the fuel gage is stuck in the middle, it could be anything in the gage circuit: fuel level sender in the tank, wiring from sender to gage, or the gage itself. Try grounding the gage wire as close to the tank as possible and then see if the gage moves. If the gage moves, the wire and gage are good and the sender is bad.

hi, sorry to ask in the same post but it is relevant, my gauge moves but is a full half tank out of place so its half when full then only goes down to empty (still with half a tank in) im presuming this is the sender as it does move??
