Default Fuel Gauge Mis-read

My fuel gage is about 1/4 or more of a tank off. At 3/4 of a tank (gauge read) it takes about 7 gallons to fill up. When I do fill up it reads WAYYYYY past full to the right. Any ideas? Is it the fuel sending unit? Thanks in advance.

i think thats just the way they came.. all kinds of screwed up.. mine is the exact same... i usually get 75-100 miles before it hits F, but then i only get another 100-150 the rest of the tank... i thought about buying another guage but that wont make the gas go any slower[:@]

That is standard GM fuel gauge. They did it to make people think that the car gets super good mileage. Be careful when you get to the 1/4 mark, because it will be on E in no time, and when the gage shows empty, it really means it.

Ya, I've learned to live with the crappy guage...I tend to try and fill it up between the 1/2 and the 1/4 tank mark, it's easier on the fuel pump. But what Pete said about the empty thing, it's sooo true...
