I've never heard of that problem...I suppose it's possible, but your car suddenly lighting on fire, exploading into a giant fireball, thus launching it from the street and having it come down on top of an Hummer is also possible, but not likely...Providing you get heads that are for an LT1 you shouldn't have any issues, maybe if you beat the crap out of your car constantly, but that's expected if you drive it hard.

I wouldn't put new heads on an engine with 114K on it without going through the block first. but that's just me.

I tend to agree, if the heads are shot there is a good possibility that the bottom end is in the same condition.

If the heads are going out, then you should check, but if you're replacing the heads for performance reasons with stock compression and better flow, I don't think you'd have any problems...someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it doesn't seem too logical...

your friend is right ya dont put new heads on a old bottom end end it will only lead to straining lower end in turn blowin it unless the old heads r very clean with no oil deposits or **** like that but still risky

if your worried about it while your doing the heads just freshen up the motor while your at it and if you get time not a bad idea to do through the trans too if you will be abusing it, like racing

Gee I thought this thread was going to be about problems with teeth getting in the way.

Anyway an engine that runs good at 114K should have absolutly no problems if the new heads are installed properly and the front timing cover seals done at the same time as well. Most all of the engines I see kick the bucket are pushing over 190K. Thats still another 85,000 miles that lower end owes you.

Sure in a perfict world you would want to do it all at once. But swapping a set of heads is fairly simple and does not REQUIRE the overhaul of the lower end.

I would say Go4it.
