ive seen some pretty crapy exhaust setups made by shops. big pipe to little to big and welds that look like it got thrown on there, bends that are to far or not needed, and instead of hangers it gets welded on. i have taken my truck to shops like that to get the muffler changed but thats my truck... spend the extra now and u wont need to worry about it ever. i get three yrs from steel exhaust thats not aluminized on the west coast. stainless will outlast the car in most cases. anyways i hope this helps.

There is a decent muffler shop in my town so i am fortunate..I definetly recommend getting a set of performance headers and y pipe like the other guys said because thats really going to open it up..Plus it will sound much better....I eliminated my cat all together and it sounds great, but i live in FLORIDA and I still dont think its legel here, but everyone does it and i have never got harrassed by the police for a cat before..Normally i am going so fast thats the last thing on there minds LOL.Some states, i have heard, are very strict and have inspections so its all in were you live I guess..

have you thought of slp loudmouth? i have a 96 z, i had stock cats and the slp loudmouth1 cat back, it sounded damn good nice *** low end rumble, and the cool thing is the kit is easy to install, i had it done with the car up on ramps in like an hour, after that i took my cats off and i had to get the loudmouth2 muffler to quiet it down a bit but now it sounds better than it did in my opinion, i like magnaflow and all but i like the low end of the slp better than the mag and all, just a thought i dont know if you have checked them out

i drive a 3.4 95
all i've done to the car really is a short ram intake and i just did full exhaust from the y-pipe back
including 2.5" straight pipe into a true flowmaster(3" in 2.5's" out)
the out is a 2.5" into a 3.5" in 22" long chrome tip..

gives it a nice rumble on my car and i'm sure if yours is a Z then it would be even better

idk 69, i have never really noticed it before. but someone told me that it might have to do with the AIR hose or something or something to do with the a/c
