Well If you don't have emission testing in your state cut out you cat. Thats what I did to mine for a summer and it had a mean sound for a stock exhaust aha. Well this summer I'm running true duals with no cats and I can't wait

I've run a number of exhausts on my '95 LT1 6speed.
Had the 40(?) series (virtually straight thru design) Flowmaster on it with slash cut pipes, till it died. Had a hollowed out converter as well. This was about as loud as it gets. While engine braking it sounds like you tossed a bucket full of golf ***** down a stove pipe.
After that, I had the Hooker "Aerochamber" exhaust with the slash cut pipes as well. Very nice sound. A little more subdued than that Flowmaster, but will still bark when you stomp on it. Then it died as well.
I now run a full stainless steel Dynomax on mine, once again, with the slash cut pipes. It's tamer than the Hooker, but still sounds aggressive when you stomp on it. It's a real nice compromise.
The intermediate pipe is the stock stainless steel pipe (from the factory) and although it is covered in scale, is still structurally sound.
The Flowmaster and the Hooker are not stainless steel, and will give out over time depending on your weather. The are definitely cheaper than the stainless mufflers.
I believe the Borla can be adjusted to run "straight thru" by removing the restrictor plates.
