engine revs itself when idling
Been thinking the same, a scanner that displays live data, and checking fuel pressure sounds like a smart idea, there is Shrader valve somewhere at the rear of the engine to hook up the gauge if I remember correctly
Place an Amazon order this morning on a proper fuel pressure gauge, and a Foxwell NT301 scanner that is supposed to capture live data, in a useful way hopefully

Checked the fuel pressure last night.
First, I hooked up the meter to engine running cold to see I had a tight connection to the shrader valve, it showed then a steady 32 psi.
Then took the car for a drive to warm up, and back at the driveway when the engine had reached surge mode, hooked up the meter again.Pressure was then 32-34, there was a slight tendency that the needle followed the rpm in the beginning of the rpm rising, but then pushed back as it was regulated.
After I had stopped the engine, the meter showed a steady 34 psi, but I didn’t keep it there for long.
Realize the pressure is a bit on the low side, think I redo the test with the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose off

The car pulls fine during WOT, no stalling or hesitation that I can notice
Forgot to mention that I had two of the sparkplugs off, and they looked perfectly normal color wise (NGK Ridium).
Another thing is that there is sometimes a screaming sound when turning on or off the ignition, especially if the battery has been disconnected, it sounds like a woman who just spotted a mouse on the kitchen floor, maybe fuel pump related?
It’s been there the whole time I have owned the car and have had the surging problem

Whatever it is, it should be something electrical
My scanner hasn’t shown up in the mail yet, but meanwhile I’m gone do this test on pump and regulator

The screaming sound is more sporadic, but also when turning the ignition on and off, I believe that also comes from the engine bay
I did second fuel pressure test, this time by just priming the pump turning the ignition on and off 7-8 times, I got 38 psi this time, keep the meter hooked up and after 5 min it had dropped to 36, and after another 10 min to 35 psi.
