Well my EGR took a dump this weekend, its been going for awhile, but i cleaned it a couple of times. Could this have been why i was getting like 14-15 mpg?

Also does anyone know where to get one at a good price? The cheapest i found was $190. Im going to check local junk yards this weekend.

 

A leaking EGR could make your gas mileage go down, it's in essence dumping in uncombustable air into your cylinders that's unmetered by the MAF, so the car can't correct by adding less/more fuel to compensate. I'm not sure what to tell you about the lowest price, good luck at the junkyard! Remember, if you pull it yourself it'll cost less!

 

I'd stay away from the junk yard for something like that. You could end up getting one as bad as the one you have now. And stay away from the local auto parts stores too. Those things are junk. Emission parts should be new and purchased from quality manufacture. You get the cheapies and you'll regret it trust me. I've been throught that tring to save money and ended up spending more in the long run. Not worth it. I only paid $60-$70 bucks when I got mine and that was from a chevy dealership. Who's charging you $190?

 

I have a friend who gets stuff from summit at cost. He said it was an ACdelco EGR valve that normally cost $330 something, but he could get it for me for about $190.

The LT1 EGRs are different arent they?

 

why use anEGR anyway? make a sheet metal gasket thts wht i did u dont even need EGR it just blow exhaust gas in your intake.

 

That exhaust gas blown into the intake does more than control pollution. Because of the cooling effect the engine can use more spark advance and run a leaner mixture for better fuel economy. The EGR closes at WOT and has no effect on power output.
