I have a 97z and i just bought a Hypertech power programmer from a guy who stops in where i work every now and then. Heres the story. He has a 97z but he took out the lt1 and put in a 396 stroker. When he sold me the programmer he asked what else had been done to it and when i popped the hood he saw my obviously diy egr hose/valve fix. He told me that it is a common problem that frequently goes wrong and there is a tsb out that the dealership will replace it for free. I trust but i havent had time to call a dealer to get an appointment, but i was wondering if others have the same issue with their egr.

 

i had a SES light for EGR flow , it came on one Thursday and had cleared itself before i got back to work the next monday to diag. it i think mine was due to carbon getting stuck between the pintle and seat becuase my car has VERY low milage for it's age (a 97 with 35K miles)
