Not sure what an "orv" is but i did notice in some pics that people are putting tires under the car.

While i am doubtful that the ramps would allow for enough clearance for the front end to get up without rubbing i figured i could jack the car up and place them under the tires. This would free up my jack stands for the rear end, so that the whole car would be up. The ramps would really be serving dual purpose, i could use them with my blazer too. Let me know if that's not a good idea and i will find a work around.

I really need to get the thing high enough in the air for the tranny jack to get underneath, but i want to be safe, because its hard to drive a camaro when your squished under one.

i just pulled mine out and used a shop jack i have. just balanced the trany on it and once everything was unbolted it came right out. u have to let the back down a little at a time and undo the bolts plugs and linkage as it u go. take the bolts out of the balancer first. i didnt have to take the starter out. i did the first time. with headers that was a pain.

I used two old tires mounted on wheels and lifted the rear of the car up, slid them under the back tires and then lowered the car down on them. This provided some moving around room under the car. I used 2 x 4 pieces of wood just a bit longer than the width of my jack stands, nailed them together to build a platform to sit the jack stands on to increase the height of the front of the vehicle. I would still try to use a second method of holding the car up while under it if at all possible, such as a floor jack under the cradle or from cherry picker with a chain wrapped around the front frame just behind the radiator. Never can be too careful!

So i finally got around all the stuff i thought i would need to pull the tranny. It was not as big of a job as I initially expected, the hardest part was getting the thing off of the tranny jack so i could slide it out from under the car, by myself. So far so good, got the rebuild dvd and some literature. Plan on tearing down the tranny and seeing if it will be worth rebuiding or just make a good core. Thanks for all the tips and help.
