confused need starter help

Default confused need starter help

every starter that i find for a 93 LT1 has straight across bolt patern, but my starter and engine block has the staggered bolt pattern
what's up with that, why the difference in bolt patterns

Where have you gone to find a starter? And any pics would help. Having some trouble following you with this.

they all have a short bolt and a long bolt if thats what your talking about. the gen 2 motor does not have a offset bolt pattern. but then some strange stuff went on in the factory at times. would like to see picuters. is this what your looking for only in a 153 tooth Powermaster 3510 - Powermaster OEM-Style High-Torque Replacement Starters - Overview - SummitRacing.com

that is the way my starter looks
staggered mounting bolts
starter i tried this time came off a 94 lt1

must be a truck starter. here is the only one i could find with 153 tooth staggered. looks to be a universal starter.

I have to ask to get it out of the way....you're sure your engine is an LT1?
Even if someone drilled the block to accommodate the staggered starter (to use a 168 tooth flywheel/flexplate), the original straight mount hole would still be there.

right im beginning to wonder if its a lt1. need to see some pictures of the motor and the starter area.

yup i'm sure it's an lt1 it's in a 93 Z28
but engine was built for drag racing prior to me buying the car
hence my other thread about the oddball tranny
oh well i'll figure something out

Just because it's a Z28, and the car originally came with an LT1, doesn't mean that's what's in there now.
Plus, the engine's been out, what was put back in? How about some detailed pictures of the engine?
