Um... forget putting the 95 Computer in the 97 car... It is not going to fit. The cables to the computer are not alike. The 95 had a unique computer. To figure out your car you only need to visit your local autopart store and have them read the codes. To have your computer reprogramed you can get a USB to OBDII cable and then you will need software that will interface with your car. I am not sure where to get the software but a simple search from google, bing or what have you will find you a cable. Last time I looked the going price was between $20-$30. Not sure on the software.

Your car seems to be ruining poorly when the PCM switches to to closed loop operation. Typically 1 to 2 minutes after starting. This usually indicates a sensor problem. Disconnect the wires from the MAF sensor, this will keep the PCM in open loop, and see if the engine now runs better. If it does, you will still need a scanner and verify that all sensors are working as they were designed to do.

Black smoke indicates a very rich mixture. Could be due to a misfire, bad pressure regulator, injector stuck or held open by a short to ground, clogged air filter, bad MAF, bad O2 sensors. A scan tool should help to pin the problem down.
