Default center bolt valve covers

are the center bolt valve covers know to leak from the bolt holes, my driver side is wet from three of them and its also the same side that has a slight tick is this due to the cover?

if so is there a more durable studs to use so they wont leak anymore?

No, that would be a coincidence. The ticking would be from a bad lifter, or a wiped cam lobe, or bad rocker arm, or rocker arm nut that backed off (loose valve lash), or bent push rod, or poor oil flow to the rockers. An exhaust leak near the head may also fool people into thinking it's a lifter noise, the sound can be similar.

There is a good chance that your tapping is just some carbon in the lifter. Change to a good synthetic oil and a good oil filter and in one or two oil changes the noise will most likely go away. I use mobile one and a mobile one filter. For the filter you want to look for a brand name and a 10 micron filter.

The concept is simple, the new oil will not create carbon deposits and the new filter will not let old ones pass through it. Eventually the carbon will clear out.

i don't use fram filters at all. the economy filter can go to pieces and mess with oil pressure. i have not had issues with my valve covers leaking. the oil coming from the push rods is not all that much so it does not spray all over like the old style sbc. you could have excess blow by but that would also force oil/air out any opening it could find.

and some swear by them.

now, if you don't buy Fram which is owned by a New Zealand firm because you want to support USA companies, then that's admirable.

But, don't buy Reynolds Wrap, Hefty bags, Prestone, Airtex, Autolite, Wells and others as they are all owned by the same company

well i just changed the oil for the heck of it and put moble 1 (which was on the oil cap) and a moble 1 oil filter and ticking went away and runs good.

and the oil from the center caps just needed to be tightened.
