Brake Rotor Question

[QUOTE=j DON'T waste your money on drilled and slotted rotors.[/QUOTE]
These are all just options that I'm considering. I've not committed to anything just yet...still waiting on the stealership to screw me with an AC bill.
LOL, I don't worry about what kind of bits I have on my car "when talking to people." I'm not "that guy." I don't go to car hangouts or any of that stuff, at least not since I moved from Ohio 23 years ago. I used to own 2 sportbikes and my only reason to stop at The Rock Store (big weekend biker hangout here in LA) was to get something to drink before-or after-making some runs on "The Snake" section of Mulholland. Yes, I was slow, but I digress!
I put about 7500 miles on this car every year, at most. Even if the rotors only lasted 30k miles, that's 4 years. I can live with that.
And again, forgive my newbie-like ways. With exception of throwing on an exhaust or doing some cosmetic stuff, car modification has never really been my thing. My only plans for this car at the moment are the brakes, exhaust, Ram Air Kit, tower brace bar, and the interior-the latter of which will only happen if my wife gives me the gift of some new seats or my daughter heads off to college. She's 12...so whichever comes first, LOL.

at the end of the day, your wallet will be lighter and your car will stop no better or negligibly better than my 4th gen with good ole Wearevers. But, you can say you have drilled and slotted rotors when talking to people.
If you plan on using the car on road courses then why look at the junk brakes at all?

if solid rotors where better without areas on them that dissipate heat then the rotors would be solid. they are not, they have open space in the middle. the quality of the steel dictates the quality of the rotor, if you buy cheap steel you get a cheap product.

i have a 2006 silverado truck and started gettin insane hot brakes! it was the slip pin which is on single piston calipers. difinately remove, sand clean, and put a dab of grease on them...my sisters mustang was burning up brakes due to the same thing. hope this helps. if your not sure what the slip pins are...they are what your calipers bolt to....the should move freely in and out. they have little dust boots on them. two for each caliper.

had one on my truck get hot like that when it stuck on, drug me right off the road at 40, lucky there was a open graveled area there instead of a ditch. i was on my way in the get the brakes done, i wasnt interested in doin a 1 ton 4x4. hit it with a hammer and it let lose. i very carefully turned around and took it home. it got towed to the shop. mc i know what the open space is for in the disk, and i know what the slots and holes are for in them as well. i got over 6500 miles on mine and no problems, they get worked hard with this stock trans and converter in it. the motor wont idle low so it wants to go all the time. i like em, i agree to disagree.

try having 3 in at the same time
If I get reincarnated I'm selling college textbooks for a living. Boy have those prices gone up since I went

Didn't mean to make it sound like you didn't know what the open space was for cause I know you do. Just for a stock DD, he's fine with a auto parts store pads and rotors. But I'm open to agree to disagree.

The argument will go on forever whether it works or not, but that's one of the theories behind the drilled rotors. Create more surface for cool air to pass through.

Is it safe to assume (yeah I know) you meant caliper covers and not rotor covers?
That's a lot to spend just to have someone go Ooooooooooh!!!!
Especially when caliper paint will only cost you between $10-20.
