Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Sounds like this could be your problem. Any other symptoms? SES light on? etc.

If all the above mentioned looks OK, check out the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). Make sure all wiring is good, and check the resistance as you work the throttle. Use an analog meter and watch the needle movement.

i did check for vacuum leaks yesterday and everything seemed ok. i just went to the gas station and when i was coming back there is a stop sighn at a hill it allmost stalled like 5 times b4 i could get it to go because i had to give it the extra gas for the hill. then about a mile down the road i got on it doing like 30mph and it almost stalled then backfired like a firecracker and saw a puff of smoke out the back.. will check the tps . there is no ses lights on.

Sounds like a fuel problem. Same thing happened to me a couple months ago, it turned out to be my fuel pump.

That's not necessarily your problem, but something fuel related is what I'd bet my money on right now.

I'd definitely get it checked out then.

But if it's been having starting issues for that long, and this new issue is just now starting, then chances are those two things are unrelated. Or at most one caused the other.

How many miles are on it right now?

I'm at 150000, so if that's about what it takes to kill a fuel pump, it could be the same for you. :P

Well still looking for the problem. Put a new tps in. did plugs and wires cause it was time anyway. the only thing i did notice while doing wires is the vaccum pump. it has a plastic case around it and it has a couple of holes like where somthing hit it. could this be the cause of hesitation. it has gotten worse over the last week it really bucks when i get on it. Or is this one of those opti realated problems?
