Default air intake elbow

i've noticed alot of people have these elbows that go with their aftermarket air intakes. are these elbows for better flow? ever since i discovered them i've always wondered what their purpose is.

thats the claim, there is a air foil kinda that splits the air a little better than nothing. i like it because it is easier to remove/install than the stock one and it stiffens the air intake. my rubber piece on my stock one was ripped and after looking at prices for a replacement i decided to try the trick flow.

yeah I just got one of these intake elbows as well. I mostly got it because it matched the silver SLP CAI I just got, and I thought it would look much better in my engine bay. idk if it's enough for a noticeable difference, but I would reasonably assume that air would flow better through something with a smooth inside rather than something with an accordion-style shape. It also gets rid of the stupid "donkey dong" that hangs down for resonance.
