Default Advice on purchase of 1996 Z-28

Hey, I am new to this forum and have a question I am hoping to get answered. I have the option to purchase a 1996 Z-28 Convertible in Arctic White with all options. It is in excellent condition and only has 51k miles. The dealer is asking for $7900, is this a good price? Also, what kind of reliability can I get with this model? I had a 1989 RS with the V8 that I bought new, but had nothing but problems with it and ended up getting rid of it after only 2 years.
Thanks to anybody that can help.

Thats a fair price, especially with the low miles. These newer engines are very reliable as long as you keep up with regular maintenence.

The price seems a little high, but it is coming from a dealer. It seems fair, but not good, you should try and get them to come down. Check KBB to see what they say it should go for and base your decision on that.

As far as reliability, I've had my car for 4 years now and all I've had to do is regular maintenance.

i'd say 7900 is pretty high for this car. the economy just isn't doing well and prices of cars just keeps dropping. i'd hold out on them and try to get them to come down a bit

Thanks for the info. I have checked KBB and retail is 8600, private party is 7500 and trade in is 5800. I am thinking of offering 6000-6500 and see how it goes from there.
I have been reading up on the LT1 and it seems to be a pretty sound motor.

tell him $5500-$6000 but only if they change the plugs and wires as part of the deal. If he says yes, get it in writing........ (may as well try and get it done)
