Default 97 Z28 and I'm stumped, got any help?

Ok some backround information,

I have a 97 Z28 Camaro. with about 78K on the motor.
I am the third owner of the car. it was bought in Alabama, and has only been as far as Georgia (where it currently resides)
for the first 6 years of the cars life it had been driven all of 1000 miles.
after that it was sold to the previous owner's grandson, who I bought the car from.

I've had a bit of experience with cars in the past but not with the LT1 motor. so here's the problem.

-There is a loud knock comming from the motor
- the motor bogs down and has trouble acclerating
- I havn't checked compression yet so thats still up in the air
- after looking into it a bit, I figgured out the knocking noise is comming from the number 8 cylinder
- it is not firing,
- I havn't checked that perticular plug but others seem fine (old but fine)
-The coolent is brown and a little chunky
- it does not make the loud knocking noise, untill the car is warmed up or at partial gas. but for sure cylinder 8 still does not fire.
- I thought it was a spun baring causing the knocking noise but I figgured I'd see some metal flings in the motor oil.
- the oil was changed about 400 miles ago. this was after the noise started. and there are still no filings in the oil that I can see
- the front and main seal are currently leaking and need to be replaced.

I know there are a few more symptoms that I am missing, but I am at a loss as to what is the problem with the car. anyone have any Ideas? I figgure it is just rod knock but would love to hear otherwise.

Let me know what you think.
thanks for the time and attention

Bump.

I checked the Compression of the number 8 Cylinder and it seems low in compairison to others.

there is also Humidity or water in the Motor oil as evidenced by muddy looking brown crust in the oil cap and a white looking puss.

anyone had experience with this type of situation?

Thanks for the attention.

Comp.

OK, first of all, what kind of test did you perform to determine that #8 isn't firing? Is it ignition or what? I wouldn't want to do a lot of driving on only 7 cylinders if that's the case. Also keep in mind that if the #8 cylinder isn't firing, it isn't carrying it's weight, and that could be the cause of the noise you hear. Need to dig further to find the cause of your #8 no-fire.

Well with the water in the oil its a blown headgasket and since number 8 isn't firing at all that is where it is probably blown. The knocking well. My car blew the head, shoved the gasket into the valve and caused the piston to hit the vlaves. I do not suggest driving it anmore do to the fact the sooner or later you car will over heat and then the motor is in real trouble.
