95 z28 - having starting problems
this is the one i got: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT
so far, as long as i stuff a rag around the crack on the radiator - the car runs like a champ. it gave me some trouble the other night but as soon as i took the rag out and rung it out and stuffed it back in place - the car ran like a champ again. unfortunately, i had to replace my pass side headlight and running light (bulb) yesterday - fog light will be next. ugh. i imagine the coolant had something to do with it, though. i did happen to notice that my fuel line leading into my fuel filter may have had a pinch in it at some point, as well. i just took a zip tie to secure the filter a little better until it gets replaced with the radiator.
finished the install for the radiator. car is running absolutely perfect now! did not need to replace the opti. whew! so, for $22 (plus shipping) the problem has been solved. merry christmas to me! lol
well, to quote the mechanic at the shop... i have a 'ghost in my z28'! same problem arose and no codes are showing up! ugh
my dad replaced my fuel filter and a funny little L shaped hose he had to get from the dealer (behind the tb plate on intake manifold). the rubber was bad.
now its in the shop. the mechanic says its not my opti and they are leaning toward my fuel pump. any thoughts?

did he tell u what the fuel pressure is? ask what leads him to believe thats the problem. i think the L shaped vacuum hose is to the fuel pressure regulator. need to test that also. pull the coil wire and check both ends. sometimes the wire doesnt get plugged in all the way and the end gets burned off. the way water was effecting it i find it hard to believe its a fuel pump but could be a very unlikely odd coincidence. keep us up to date.
im with him think that it is the opti my 95 was doing somthing like that but there is a wiring harness that plugs the opti to the engine harness and if that has a bad wire or two it will do the samething so pull that out and take a look at the plug that connects to the opti and see if it has a split if it does it will have to be replaced and it is about 230 bucks and dealer only it sucks but check there first it is on the passenger side it there is plug that sits on top of the intake that has four wires coming out towards the front of the motor and fall back behind the water pump have fun and happy hunting
$230 for an opti harness at the stealership? What a hose job!
How about $36.95 instead? http://www.casperselectronics.com/st...oducts_id=1484
Sometimes just unplugging the harness and plugging it back in can solve a problem, if it's corrosion that's causing it. If so, clean the connections.

i am on my own again with this problem since my Dad was only visiting for the holidays.
i think i may have found the problem (or at least part of it). i had to be towed home last night because my car decided to cut out on my while driving this time. ugh. i'm so sick of this. so i decided to attack the problem myself!
i took off the CAI so that I could see my opti & all the sensors, yadda yadda. i truly believe it is not a fuel issue right now. i noticed when it won't start, or actually, starts but misfires and eventually stalls - that when i am trying to give it gas there is a huge gasping sound that i can hear coming from drivers side of engine compartment (im sitting inside the vehicle). the more gas i give, the larger the gasp - but no sound from exhaust, and then it stalls.
bear with me here... i don't think i found the wiring harness for the distributor, but anything that looked like a wired plug/connector/sensor i went ahead and disconnected and cleaned with a toothbrush. i found some crusty crap in a couple. i think i stumbled upon my ignition coil/connector - if you are standing and looking at the opti, its to the bottom right - it has 2 wired plugs that connect to each other before clipping onto the ignition coil... jeez, i hope i'm making sense. all i have to go by is a haynes manual that only shows one brief pic. anyways, those 2 wired plugs that connect to each other had water beads all over their connections. i wiped them off thoroughly and took my shop vac and used it as a blower then a vac then a blower in order to try to get all the moisture out of there. also, is there a spark plug that sits right behind the opti? my spark plug wires are red but have an L shaped boot on the end, this wire was the same type of wire only a straight fitting on the end. anyways, that wire was not connected securely - almost ready to come off, so i pushed it down till it was snug.
i'm gonna go clean everything up outside and i will let you know what comes of it all
