I just got done with my engine swap, and everything looked glood. No leaks and all wiring hooked up.
Put the battery in it, crank it and it acts like its going to fire but will not. it spins fast then all of a sudden is bogs down.

I'm getting fuel and air, and we test out the spark and we are getting spark too. I went over the spark plug wires, and they are right. I'm wondering if the opti spark has to be put in a certain way? Like lined up with TDC?

It's kinda got me puzzled, but if anyone could give me some advise that would be great. Also, timing is good .

 

Is this the former 3.4 car that had a blown head gasket? If it is, there is a lot of things that could have possibly been over looked in the V6-V8 swap.

The opti will only go on one way, unless you forced it on.

That said, did you rebuild your engine or swap in one from a wrecking yard or crate engine? It would be possible for the internal cam gears to have been installed wrong, and that could keep it from starting (basically your cam is clocked wrong and valve timing would be all messed up).

Have you tried pulling any codes out of the computer? Have you checked for compression across all eight holes? Are the plugs getting wet with fuel?

 

No I have a V6 camaro and also purchased a 95 Z with six speed but motor blew. We are getting fuel on the spark plugs they look good. The engine was full rebuild.. Have no pulled any codes yet but will check that soon. I know the timing is right I lined all that up correctly. We are getting air, fuel and spark.. It acts like it wants to start but fails to do so.

Idk how old but it's vented so not original.. It's stock though.

 

Okay. I saw some other posts by you concerning a V6 with engine probs and thought you maybe tried the V6-V8 swap.

Anyway, try pulling the codes and seeing what they say. I might be the opti but check for codes before you get too far.

 

95 has a vented opti.

 

Ok well I'm kinda thinking my opti is lined up wrong.. Everywhere ive looked says you can not do that but I'm getting spark to every cylinder, and I know I lined up the timing correctly. My opti is NOT splined drive, it just fits into the cam. What is the proper way to install this since I'm going to rip it apart and put it on the correct way.

 

if you have a spark checker, check to see if your getting a good blue spark

There's a line-up notch where the opti meets the cam. You can't put it on wrong, as long as you didn't force the opti into place against the block.
The base of the opti should have been resting nicely against the mounting points on the block before you started to bolt it down.
