i might be better puttin a trans in the 94 and looking for a 96 eng! thanks for the knowledge!

Why does he need to install a new style opti. You can add a vent kit to the old style, if that's the reasoning.

yah i tend to blend things together to much. in order to do it so the ses light is not on and the computer to work right he will need to change those things.

A piece of tape over the light would be a whole lot easier! lol

come to think of it the pcm could be tuned to let it go into closed loop, it would lose at least some of its ability to diagnose without the crank sensor

Right, that's why I was asking why you'd go through all that trouble of converting it to a new style opti. He would then have the equivalent of a 94, but in 96 clothing.

He can get a tune to make that engine work in a 96. But depending on where he lives and the state emissions requirements he can do a obd1 convert. Mad z28 does that and if your state doesn't have any emissions with that car you can barder your obd2 with the tuner for a the obd1.
