94 Auto to 6sp Electrical Question
My car has had the auto replaced with a 6sp. I am working through all the details and wondered if it's worth getting the ECM replaced/reprogrammed for the 6. It is setting codes (not a big deal) and it'd be great if I could get all in order. The harness is still the auto and I'd love to replace it.
I haven't checked the tune, but I'm sure it could be improved too.
Any comments anyone?

You will need a new PCM that is designed for the auto. If you had a 96+ camaro you could just program the new trans in the PCM. You should also consider getting the wiring harness for the T56 94 Z to prevent other errors in the computer. It does need info from the trans to help make proper fuel mappings and timing adjustments

I figured I'd need the harness.
I take it you just can't load the file from a T56 into the comp. Are these eeprom chip designs?
Speedometer is way off by about 2.5 divided into actual speed.
25 mph is actually about 62. I found a speed compensator to correct it, but I wondered if the right computer/programming will correct it.
94 was the first year of the PCM, but it was also limited to its hardware. The eeporm in the PCM can accept a new software load but it cannot work with the M6 hardware. You may be able to program out the speed issue but not the input information that the PCM needs to correct the timing and fuel maps.

trans does not supply pcm with any fuel correcting info the pcm uses engine info to make trans shifts you can get pcm programmed to ignore trans related dtcs and the only things that wont work on 6 spd trans would be the reverse lockout and skip shift solenoids the only input the trans has is the output speed sensor which you corrected with the speed compensator ,have known of a lot of people who put in 6 spd trans and never changed harness or pcm's
Then the pcm is better at controlling the engine than the early OBDI systems I have worked with. I didn't know if shifts would give the pcm any problems, since during a shift you are (usually) off the throttle with a manual and not an auto.
It's not a major deal then.
It would be nice if the reverse lockout would work. I don't know if my wife, that likes a manual, would jam it into R in a rush. She likes to push all sorts of limits and I don't want that to be one.

The PCM needs the vehicle speed information to assist with the vehicle load calculations which helps determine fuel metering and timing curves. If you dont have the right info going to the PCM you are not going to get the most out of your engine. So you can keep going the way you are now or try to make it right.
