The only thing i know that wears water pumps out at an advanced rate is running them with too little water. on older style v belt pulleys you can wear one out quickly by running your belts too tight but, yours has a serpentine belt i would imagine and it's less likely your belt is too tight. sorry i could'nt help you more. maybe you just have bad luck 8-) . The only things I can think of are: the front cover of the pump could be loose, the pump is otherwise defective, or it was installed improperly. The LT1 pump is gear driven so there should not be any undue wear on the pump bearings or seals. As Sick mentioned, running the pump low on water can damage it. The other problem you going to have is that when the pump leaks, the Optispark gets wet. and when the Opti gets wet, it soon dies.

Learned exactly what pete said the hard way, my water pump leaked now my car is on stands getting the opti replaced. And those things are outragesly expensive.

Dealership want $675 for new one

Found a remaned opti with lifetime warranty at O'Reilly Auto Part for $150. Does not include cap and rotor, but does include control module.

another thing that can prematurely cause a h20 pump to die on lt1's is not running dex-cool and using other kinds of coolants. the dex-cool actually has silicone in it which is critical to maintaining our cooling systems

well i took the old water pump off today and found out that one of the reason it might have leaked is because i took it to meineke to get the work done on it and they didnt put any gaskets on the water pump
