The sameblock/bore is shared by the 302, 327, 350, 383 chevy given the choice and if power was the object I would take the 383 over the 302.

The idea was that all Corvette LT1 would get 4 bolt mains, while the F cars with LT1s would get 2 bolt mains, except that a 4 bolt would be substituted for a 2 bolt in order to keep the production line going. All LT4 engines had 4 bolt mains.

The 305 does not perform well because it is a narrow bore long stroke engine and was not designed for high output. However; the Chevy 302, which was designed as alarge bore short stroke enginewill demolish a Ford 302. Two bolt mains are generally reliable to around 450 HP, and with a properly balanced engine can be good for another 100 HP.

LS type engines have a deep skirted block and use 4 bolts under the main bearing caps, and 2 bolts from the side of the block into the main bearing caps. So they have 6 bolt mains.

Now, all you guys pull down the oil pan and count the number of bolts. Bragging rights are important.
Pete, you are the man...

Now where's that socket set so I can go pull my oil pan

The 303 Chevy was designed especially for the Trans Am racing series, where the limit was 302 cu in. It uses the same block that all other 4" bore configurations such as the 327, and the350, but the stroke is only 3" (same as the original 265). This made for a very high revving engine that made a lot of power for its size (estimated 400+ HP), but low end torque was limited and required fat rear end gear ratios for street use. The main reason that it is not widely used, is that for the same money, one can get a 350 or even a 383, which are better street engines and produce more power.

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ationwagon.jpg I tried to get a thumbnail picture to work but I cant figure it out. This wagon had a 265 in it. The best it turned in the 1/8th was 8.3 I am told it beat the Yenko but I was too young to really remember. A friend of mine built a 283 for a pulling truck it would turn around 10,000 rpm it sounded great just didnt have the low end to be competitive. The 265 in the wagon was built it ran the K stock class but they were seriously bending the rules(2 fours didnt come factory on a wagon) in comparison we put together a mild 350 with vortec heads in the camaro and ran a 8.23 with more potential to go. No substitute for the cubes.
Pete I have a question back to the original topic, my brother just bought a 92 vette with the lt1 he said he thought it was a 2 bolt maindoes this make sense? Its a beautiful car 35,000 original miles it is outstanding for the year and it is a 6 speed.
