Default 396 lt1????

Is it possible to stroke and punch out an LT1 into a 396 or are you pushing your luck with a 2 bolt main and thinning out the cylinder walls?

You can probably bore and stroke it up. You can stroke them out to 383 with a 400 crank, so if you bore it over you can probably get up to 396...don't cite this as fact or anything, but it seems plausible.

Can somebody inform "thestig" what makes a big block a big block and a small block a small block. I guess Chevy is wrong when they call the new ls7 "427" a small block.

lol. . . .i was being sarcastic when i was impling that you wanted to make it a big block, Sorry I just thought it was ovious enough i wouldnt have to tell you. And besides that, i dont think you will be able to get it up to a 396. If you can great, but i dont see it happening.

Sorry for being so touchy. Was a long day. I am just curious. I know you can make a 383 out of a 350, just does not seem like 396 is that far off.

396 LT1s are available, they use a crank with a 3.875" sroke compared to 3.75"stroke for the 383, and 3.48" stroke for the 350 versions.
