1996 Z28 Engine rebuild
Hey everyone, I'm new here so please go easy on me, lol.
my friends wants to sell his 96 z28 camaro, auto for $1800 with +200K miles.
wild guess is this car going to need it's engine rebuilt. How much may that run me as well as dropping in a manual trans?
And is this car worth $1800 considering all the work it's going to required soon? It runs fine supposedly right now. I'm going to test drive it this weekend.
Any thoughts would be great.

if you like the car...i'd say its worth it if you have the funds to do everything. i can't give you numbers on an engine rebuild. if i had to guess i'd say about 2000 for a straight rebuild...up and away from there if you put performance parts on. i also think that putting a 6 speed tranny in might be alittle more work than you're wanting to do.

I'm not too worried about the money if it's possible that the car will last after I redo everything.... I just hate auto transmission (nothing against them).I love having complete control over my car when shifting, lol.
Is it hard to come by th parts for the re build? I've never done anything this big to a car so it's going to be my project for the spring and summer of this coming year.
Would I just be better off saving my money til the summer and buying a newer Z28 or SS with lower miles and not auto?

it would save you a lot of time, frustration, and maybe some money if you just saved and bought something else. you could also look for the exact car that you really wanted. that's my opinion, take it for what its worth
