i am buying a 1996 ta tomarrow and it wont start. i went over there and checked it out. it would turn over fine but not fire it would back fire like 1 time every ten seconds or so. it has been sitting for a year but ran fine when parked. so do you think that it is a optispark problem? or what else do you guys think? any help will be appriated

im willing to bet its an opti problem. mine sat for two weeks while the transmission was being redone and for some reason the opti went in that short period of time. it was hard to start(backfiring, popping) but i started it up, drove 10 miles and it sounded like my engine fell out of the car. is yours throwing any codes? ses light on? usually when you have a bad opti it will throw a bunch of BS codes. mine were codes like.. MAF sensor circuit grounding problem, IAT temp too low, EGR circuit problem, and it gave me absolutely no clue it was the opti spark. sure enough i changed that first and the codes went away and the car ran good again.


EDIT* also i forgot my friend has a 95 Firebird Formula(the one in my sig picture) when his opti went bad it wouldnt start. it would turn til the battery was dead but would just pop and sputter, would not start.

 

thanks guys yeah it was the optispark she starts withen 2 seconds runs and drives good even stock this thing feels faster then my supra ..ahhaha
