What kind of ABS does my car have??

Default What kind of ABS does my car have??

My car is a 2001 SS..since it does NOT have the ASR, would i have a 3-channel or 4-channel??

seems to be a bosh 5.3 system with or with out traction control
check to be sure if you have a wheel sensor each side at the back
it sould be a 4 wheel system by the info in the box i'm looking at

Look at your rear wheels, if there is a sensor lead going to each wheel, it is a 4 chan system.

Thanks for the info..i just looked at it and its got a single sensor in the middle so i believe that would be a 3 channel..

So do Camaros with ASR have a 4 channel system?

ASR needs a 4 channel system because it needs to know how fast each of the drive wheels is spinning compared to the front wheels. If both rear wheels are slipping at the same rate ASR the reduces power, if only one rear wheel is slipping the ASR applies brakes to the slipping wheel.

Anyone seen a how-to article to retrofit ASR onto a Camaro that does not have it?

why retro fit is, ASR sucks big time, its one of the worst traction control systems i've ever seen and typically pulls power when you need it to get out of a 'situation'

Seems to work well on wet pavement for me. Definitely NOT well in the snow...

The ASR system is pretty much built into the car and cannot easily be added to the mix. The control unit acts as a throttle limiter and cruise control module. It takes info from the front and rear wheels as well as the tranny to know how fast everythign should be going to ascess wether to apply brake or tighten up the throttle cable. Now you all do know that you can override the throttle limiter by simply pressing the petal down harder... yea it was designed that way.
