Default Quest for 400rwhp

ok, so i have been doing exhaustive research for the past few weeks trying to pick and choose the exact parts i will be happy with. List of purchases so far include:

TR230/224 111 lsa cam
Patriot "extreme" valve springs
LS7 lifters
MTX-L wideband o2 kit
HPtuners vcm suite
Melling oil pump
rollmaster timing set
QTP electric cutout
OBX long tube headers w/ resonators and y
centerforce dfx clutch

Yes i know some of these parts have nothing to do with making hp, just extra safety for the build. Question is, what, if anything am i forgetting before i start tearing into her? My car came with the SLP 345hp package, but im looking to hit 400 rwhp. Also, if anyone has a tune file thats close to what i would need for this build? Any suggestions???

I have over 400 rear wheel hp on my 02 Formula, and I have all of what you mentioned. If your going to do a cam, you should really look into p/p ur heads or an aftermarket set. Their are many different LS heads but if you work yours, its less expensive and you'll get just about the same results. That's if you want to get everything you can out of the cam. Otherwise, you will not see all the hp, the cam has potential to make.

Also, a M.A.S. and CAI are necessary as well. You'll also need a computer tune. Good luck, keep us posted!

your car has 350hp stock like all other LS1's. You can hit 400whp even with the tr224r or 228r as long as you have good heads and tune. You really should get a dyno tune for a cam install, a handheld tune won't be good enough. You might be able to get away with a mail order tune from frost or pcmforless

The reason i picked the tr230 is bc of it being a reverse split cam, was told i can still make good hp without the intake mods, and later when i get to those mods it only helps even more. Ive gotten most the parts so far, but the cam was on back order. Since the vcm suite showed up, has given me plenty of time to play and get familiar with it, will take her to the nearest dyno as soon as the build is done. I feel like a 10 year old on x-mas eve!!! Lol

ok, i figured i would post an update, the only change to my list above was i ended up switching to a 227/234 115 lsa cam, and switched from patriot extreme valve springs to comp cams double valve springs. got everything installed this past weekend and ive been tuning since then anytime i drive the car... all i can say is it was worth every penny!!! i still havent installed the clutch or qtp cutout, but i will get to it soon. i have fallen in love all over again! lol. i had to shut the car off at dunkin donuts today because the lady couldnt hear my order!!!! lol

400hp at the crank is very easy on our cars. 400whp is still not hard but will take a little more cash. To get 400 to the wheels i would say lid, intake, exhaust, headers, head/cam package. Dont waste your money on after market intakes or MAF's. The factory MAF works very well and a intake lid will work just fine.

Figured i would give another update.... With the tune i did myself with HPtuners, i made 423RWHP and 412RWTQ. after an hour on the dyno, final numbers were 448RWHP and 427RWTQ. I was shooting for 400, and made almost 450! im very happy!!!! Ill bet i might get a few more hp if i had the QTP cutout installed, but ill get to it soon. list of mods are:

slp lid modded to feed air from under car
obx headers and y with slp lm cat back
p/p heads with comp cams double valve springs
ls7 lifters
tr 227/234 115lsa cam
port matched ex & in
rollmaster timing set
melling oil pump
innovate mtx-l wideband
centerforce dfx clutch

Im thinking i should lean towards upgrading the rearend next, im nervous its gonna leave me stranded sometime, lol.
Ill post pics of the build later today.

why cant it? Get an LE HCI package and all the bolt ons and you should be easily over 415whp with the right LE cam and a good tune.
