RE: Oil change question
The mobil 1 extended life is actually petrolium based. So you tell me how that extends the life of a synthetic? If you go more than the manufacturer's warrenty they won't help you and trust me, Mobil won't bail your *** out if you have a problem with your motor. They'll blame it on lack of some other maintinace. So I'd use regular Mobil 1. The Lucas oil stabilizer works wonders.

RE: Oil change question
I always use Mobil1 5W30 in winter & 10W30 in summer, but I change it every 3000 miles. IMO no matter how good the oil is, it is not going to do the engine good by circulating dirt, metal particles, and assorted garbage around the engine. The oil filter is only so good.

RE: Oil change question
"OVERRATED" ? GM testing indicates otherwise. The WWW.Mobil.com web site indicates that both Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 Extended are "Fully Synthetic" formulas. As far as additives, they do not recommend them. Additives in the very worst case can cause the additive package to drop out of suspension, not a good thing to have happen. A quality engine oil containes all the additives you will need for it's useful life. I recommend synthetics for everything, especially because of the extreme cold and heat performance. When I get a new vehicle I immediately drain the oil and install Mobil 1.
