Default o2 sensor

i let my dad drive my car the other day and he floored it coming out of the neighborhood.we got up 2 about 80 b4 he got out of the gas and i realized the service engine soon light came on.now i took it 2 my mecanic and he reset it and told me if it was the o2 sensor on the right side.now he said if it comes back on,obviously i need 2 change it but it hasnt came back on yet but i also havent floored it like my dad has.nuttin really over 25 as far as gettin into it hard and then letting back off.but im afraid to even get into it for fear of the light coming back on,,especially since the tags are up really soon and it wont pas w/ the light on.could this have beena fluke or is it just not coming on cuz im not getting it2 it hard?? any help is appreciated.THANX

They are no biggie to change, and that code will need to stay off for a certain amount of time (a few hundred miles I think) to be cleared from memory.

I have a similar problem in my 02 SS. The code reads insufficient switching in bank 2 sensor 1, or something like that. It has popped up twice and i cleared it both times. Do i need a new O2 sensor? i have lt's but i dont think that would make the code pop up

They're not that expensive to change so go ahead and do it. sparkplugs.com has the best prices.

O2 sensors get slow with age and need to be changed. If you have OBDII and you need inspection, don't wait for the day before inspection to fix trouble codes. Certain codes have to have been stayingcleared forseveral days, or run cycles, otherwise you get a Not Ready message, and will have to reinspect the car again later.
