Default Need advice buying an LS1

So I'm thinking of selling my LT1 and buying this LS1 Z28.

It's a 1999 Z28 with a stock LS1 and 4.10 12 bolt rear end, 6 speed, stage 2 clutch, black, hardtop ( no t-tops ), 120,000 miles on it, asking price is 5 grand.

Questions:

1. What do you think of the price? Too high? Good? Too (suspiciously) low?

2. I'm gonna inspect it before buying it. What should I look for? What is it that usually goes wrong on these cars?

3. One of my reasons for switching is gas mileage. What's the usual gas mileage on the M6 LS1s with 4.10s? I've heard as low as 8 and as high as 23. Realistically, what should I expect?

Thanks.

5 grand seems pretty dam low. i bought my 01 SS for 8k with 100k miles. typically as far as what goes wrong honestly i havent had anything go on me yet but i think my altenator is on its way out. as far as gas mileage ls1's are no better than lt1 if youve got a heavy foot, and those 4:10 gears your definitly not going to be seeing anything in the 20's.

Well yours an SS, 8k is actually pretty damn cheap for a real SS. It's also a 2000. This one was a 99, and a Z28, and pretty damn beat up.

The guy showed up with the car all scratched up, peeling paint, dented bumper, bald tires, no cats...I told him to fix it and I'll think about but yeah...it's more trouble than it's worth. I think I'll just restore my LT1.

OK 5K is not bad for an LS1 car but with the mods done to it I would stay away. The gear change is all good for the launch if you are putting miles on the car 1/4 at a time. As for over all performance and mileage you may be happier with a car that is stock. Also if the computer has not been updated for the gears you will not get the total benifit of the gears.

My wife bought he 2000 Z28 for $5500 out the door with tax and tags, LS1 4A, T tops leather, monsoon sound and 130K on the meter. The car runs and drives great, body was in decient shape. Keep looking around you will find a better deal, they are out there.

8K for an SS is good, most are about 10K around here.

Miles are high but the price is about right for a Z28. The 12 bolt is a benifit for you since thats the one week link for the T56 cars. With the 4.10s they are going to kill you gas mileage but i would guess 16-19 MPG on depending on city or highway. With 3.42s you would see closer to 19-24.

I get about 20 MPG in my car with a 4L60 and 12 bolt with 3.42s.
