Just an FYI, There is a lot that changed. The 93 had a completely different computer system. The 94 was the first years for the OBD1 computer and the 95 has an OBD1.5 system, 96 had the OBD2 system. Your 97 had an upgraded OBD2 system in it. In fact if I want to tune my 96 I start by buying a 97 PCM. As you may know with the OBD systems all the sub systems are connected and talk to each other. Anti- lock brakes, theft deterrent, your Gage cluster even the climate control system all talk to each other. Across the years they are not plug and play. But what I do not know is how close the 97-98 are. We also know that once the LS1 switched to drive by wire that causes some new issues. I would love to see a list of what needed changed. We have lists like that for converting the V6 to the V8. I have seen people do the LS1 conversion in older cars but the labor is insane. Take a 94 for example to put a 98 LS1 in a 94 and use only factory made wiring harnesses you have to replace almost every wire in the car. Even down to the power window/lock harness in the doors.

When did the LS1 get throttle by wire in a Camaro? In 99 the 3.8L did but I have always thought the LS1 was cable till the end.
Yes alot has changed, 93 was OBDI but the computer was a ECU (electronic Control Unit). In 94 the computer became a PCM (Powertrain Control Module) but was still OBDI. The PCM unifies the engine computer and trans computer so they can better work together, and also the fuel, spark, and trans software is now loaded onto EEPROM chips (kinda like usb memory sticks) and can be changed without removing the main chip. This made tuning a much simpler process. 95 was a hybrid OBDI and OBDII for all engines except the 3.8L which was a rare engine in 95 and it was true OBDII. Also things like the RAP, VATS, Keyless entry, radio lock, PDL and PWD, safety lighting, DRLs, Auto headlamps were moved from seperate modules to one BCM in 96. the 96 BCM will not have features like DRL, or auto headlamps. Most BCMs from 97-02 are interchangable so long as your options are similar or the same.

I have been reading about this LS1 swap into LT1s car and it seems it is a lot more common then I thought. There are diagrams from adjusting the wiring harness so you do not have to swap out everything like a v6 swap. You can also just buy a wiring harness and it is plug and play. The 97 to 98 swap only requirs 8 wires to be swapped and you are good to go. To bad my 93 is a completely different system. 94 up seems very doable.
