Default LS1 to LS6 Swap

So, I'm new here. Sorry if this has been addressed before, but I searched for it and couldn't find anything. I am looking to take an LS6 that has a head/cam package and runs at 405 rwhp and put it into a 2000 Z28. I was just wondering how difficult it would be (I have never done anything like this before). Also, if you have any tips on how to go about this, I would appreciate it. I have been told that it wouldn't be worth it and I could make a lot of power just with mods to the LS1 that's already in it, so if you think that's the way to go, let me know that too. Thanks.

Get upto 400 HP with your LS1 -- here's a kit, you can use as a guide:

An LS6 is pretty much an LS1 with a cam and head swap. You can get more power out of your LS1 by picking the right cam/head/intake combo.

that kit is, first of all, horrendously overpriced. for 4k you can do much much better than that, hell ive only put 3k into my car and I let a guy with those mods have the drop, taked a breaht, and still pass him in 3rd (but id be spraying [8D]) I like the list (or at least dont care much ) until i see the MAF, u dont need a new maf at this stage, not near. I also have a personal vendette against can tunes. Ive seen the difference in a real dyno tune and to be honest, a handheld costs about as much as dyno time so i say get ur mods done first then put it on a dyno. the RR's exaggerate lift, this can get you a little more power but you are much better off getting a cam, especially if you are already getting springs.

the 400hp rating has to be motor, and thats not hard to do with any ls1 with boltons. a full bolton ls1 is typically in the 34-350rwhp range which is around 400 motor. however cammed cars typically run around 400rwhp.

to answer a little more about the other thread in which u posted this info, your stock wires will never need replaced unless you end up arcing one for a length of time and just destroy it or something like that. since we are COP, the charge doesnt have far to travel so performance wires arent really beneficial. I cant remember what the guys on ls1tech told me, but the hp level for the stock coils and wires is big enough i figured id never worry about it till i was ready to throw a whole new race motor in there.

So I'm getting the vibe that I should just stick with the LS1 and mod that instead of doing the LS6 swap?

I DID say a GUIDE... Good point about HP being motor vs RWHP -- SLP needs to be more clear.

The implication with wires is beefier wires like MSD sells.

What is COP?

COP is coil over plug. instead of a distributor or coil pack, each cyl has its own coil and it sits only about 8 inches from the plug, so a bigger or "higher quality" wire is not necessary as it is very difficult to max out the stock ones.

Interesting that Speed Inc. made this suggestion along w/headers, y-pipe & plugs... I would hate to think that a speed shop is recommending frivolous upgrades?! ;-)

y wouldnt they? if i had some in inventory id tell people to buy it too. get them if u want, u wont notice any gain, especially at your current power level. i wouldnt touch them until i had dropped a 427 stroked lsx in there with high stage heads and a big cam. then id think about it

slp is also a speed shop recommending these parts, but at the same time they also give smooth bellows and under-intake scoops, both of which are known to net you just north of nill.

can you show me exactly where they recommend it and give back up?
