Personally, I think it's dealer's choice re: usability. That being said, HPTuners will do more vehicles than EFILive. Therefore, if it's eventually for business use, I'd go with HPTuners.

Oh, and there are many classes out there to learn tuning these engines. I'd do that first, rather than do trial-and-error on someone's car.

I have known people who have used both and either tool will do the job well. just make sure you REALLY know what you are doing. these programs have the capability to royally screw up your car if you arent careful

efilive is the one I have its great and easy to use for lsx engines and gearbox tuning etc and has a VERY GOOD forum community to help with even the stupidest of questions. Im not sure about hp tuners but as the others say it does nore cars.

EFI Live has some advantages if your year/make/model uses the newer "VVE" Virtual Volumetric Efficiency tables. Key is if you have an E38 engine computer. LS2 and older engines have regular static "VE" Volumetric Efficiency tables.

HP Tuners has some more user friendly advantages to learn. If you need to tune virtual "VVE" tables you can download an additional free tool not provided by HP Tuners. The second tool to add is "BlueCat."
