horse power question...
hey guys, this is the first time that ive posted a question and i hope all the techs and guys with experience can help me out... Ive got a 99 camaro SS with 9600 miles on it, the guys i bought it from did a few things to it, i want to know how much power it has and what it should do in the 1/4 and 0-60 but i dont wanna mess something up taking it down the strip.....its got an LS6 intake, Mass air flow sensor, SLP lid, , and a K&N air filter, smooth bellow, SLP long tube-tuned headers, high flow cats, 3 in exhaust, and i put on a 80 series flowmaster muffler. when i bought it the guy gave me a dyno sheet that he had run after he put on the intake and headers and it showed 340hp to the wheels, i figure with me adding the flowmaster muffler it would take the rwhp to 345...am i close? and what should that put out at the flywheel?...and if you have any 1/4 times or 0-60 times you think it would fit in that would be great, thanks and i love reading the articles, ive learned alot.
I can't comment on 1/4 mile times being that I've never made a pass, but I can comment on the H.P. question. My 2000 has SLP longtubes, and 3in loudmouths with Y-pipe, LS1 intake, Hi-flow mass air, air lid. Mine made 330rwhp and 333rwtq@ 5200 and 4800 respectively. So I would definetly say you are on target. I suggest puttin a 4.10 in it to get the real effect of all that H.P.!! Let me know about any 1/4 mile times if you make any passes I'm curious to see what it will do!!
thanks dave, when i bought the car the guy told me it looses about 18% but im sure different shops go by different specs....does yours have the LS1 intake or the LS6?....and when you put in the 4:10s...i know it hurst the MPG but how bad?...if its not too serious i just might do it because i wont be using it for everyday driving, just a few rides to work and back a week and to the shows...thanks for the help and i will def post some numbers up if/when i take her down the track.

By the way, the dyno shop figured with a 15% loss thru the six-speed, flywheel h.p. would be approx 385-390ish. Hope this helps

I would doubt your change of a muffler added 5 RWHP on this configuration - my experience is bigger stuff that far back does very little under those circumstances on near stock Ls engines (they like a like easy back pressure down the line anyway) -- its already pretty optimum as you had it. Regardless, if you have 345 RWHP then 345 x 1.1235=388 estimated flywheel HP.
thanx for the input guys, i really appriciate it, i thought the drop in gas milage would be more sevre then that, thats why i never considered it....although, i rarely do any racing with it, even at redlights and stuff...i can prolly count on one hand how many times ive kept on it goin through the gears. About how much would that take off my top end with the 4:10 gears...would it still bury the speedometer?
one more thing, do you think a throttle body would be a good idea and if so what would be a good choice?...i dont know what the difference is between the 55mm and 85mm....also whose got the best quality?...thank you again
They dont make 55mm throttle bodies for the LS1, It wouldn't make much sense b/c the stock TB is like 75mm. You could get a FAST TB in either 78mm or 90mm size, but if you get the 90mm you have to get the intake manifold to go with it, which is $800, plus the TB which is $470 and that setup isnt really necessary unless you have forced induction or some other serious mods. Not worth it in my opinion. If you want a good throttle body for cheap i would get the Thunder Racing ported TB for $150, plus a $260 core deposit if you want to keep your stocker.
