Have you seen the car in person? Price would be helpful...take his asking price and compare it with kelly blue book

wrong answer

KBB shows SUGGESTED retail pricing

edmunds.com and nadaguide.com track MARKET VALUE

that is why car dealers will discuss KBB with you when they are trying to sell you a car.

step 1- check the economy in your region

step 2- compare ASKING prices of other vehicles using craigslist, cars.com, autotrader.com

step 3- how is the economy in your area (are you seeing a trend here?)

step 4- understand that most sellers honestly BELIEVE that their vehicle is worth more than the market says it's worth. They believe this because everyone wants to sell high and buy low. So, you need to determine the condition of the vehicle and pay attention to the interior, tires, paint and then mechanical.

step 5- Since you sound excited and young, YOU DO NOT DISCUSS PRICE. This is why you have a dad, an uncle or anyone else who has a few more miles on the road and has absolutely ZERO emotional attachment to the vehicle discuss pricing and negotiate.

step 6- if it's at a dealership, then understand that they will make at least $1,000 profit on the vehicle. As a young male they know why you are looking at that vehicle and they will get their price from you. The vehicle is 10 model years old (think about it, 2002,2003,2004,2005,2006,2007,2008,2009,2010,2011) so it's not like a 4 year old toyota or honda that flies off the dealer lots

You can also have KBB give you a price you might expect from a private seller.

Suggested pricing is from KBB regrdless of dealer or private. Trade value from KBB also does not reflect the market

edmunds and nadaguide track actual market data albeit a bit aged as it lags. But, they are much more accurate than KBB. The best way to get an accurate value is to ask a wholesaler if they will speak to you. They have their finger on the pulse of the market.

He is asken 8,000, theres a 2000 ss wilth 87,000 miles for $1000 less. The dude sellen it is private not a dealer, and my father has been a mechanic for 30 years and is ase certified so im definatly gona let him check it out. The only reason im not looking toards the ss is the insurance, i feal like itd be quite a bit more than the z28. Also I found out thats its gona need a new muffler and has a rip in the leather on one of the rear seats, kbb for fair is 7,500 and good is 8,400 it just seems a little much

run the numbers through Edmunds and they suggest $5500 for avg condition

So, as I said, sellers want to use KBB as their number but buyers must use Edmunds or nadaguide as that is more market driven vs asking price.

Oh, the moser rear end is only of value to him and not to John Q Public. Also, I'd grill him as to why he had to change the rear end. Translation- he didn't baby the car.

I bought my SS 2 years ago. When i went to the bank and they were looking in the NADA guide an SS or Z28 does not matter as far as insurance. Reason being an SS is a package. Even on my insurance card it says Z28 (i have proof of being a true SS from my window sticker, birth certificate from SLP) So an SS shouldnt cost no more than the Z28 because they both have the same engines.
