gears
Ok, im about to buy a Moser 9 in and im not sure what gears to get. I kno its either gonna be 3.89's or 4.11's. I want decent gas mileage but i want it to pin me back in my seat at the same time. A couple of people tell me that 4.11's is too much. By the way i have a T-56. One of the options with the rearend is full spool, posi trac, or a detroit locker. I kno what posi-trac is but im not too familiar with the other two, could someone explain them to me?
a locker is 100% torque to both wheels equally all the time when there is forward motion
a spool does basically the same thing but without the racheting like the locker and is really only for racing
horsepower tv had a special a while back about all different rear end styles, maybe you can DL it

I've ran a spool car on the street and it sucks a little for u-turns. If you plan to do a lot of street driving I'd get the locker, if it is your weekend fun car and you like to drag race it a lot, I would get the spool. I would get 4.11 gears with a t-56.
I have a t-56 and have run 4.10's and they work great for mild LS1's, once you run over 116-118 mph you'll either have to go to a taller tire 28" or less gear, i.e. 3.89 or 3.73 for 1/4 drag stuff to not run out of rpm.
If you have an aftermarket cam and can turn a little more rpm then 4.11's should work great all around for a while.
Also 40 spline gun drilled axels are only 200.00 more and are stronger and lighter than 35 spline soild axels, just a thought.
