Default Electric Fan Switch?

I would like to install a manual fan override switch on my car but am a lottle uninformed about them. Do I need to purchase a relay in addition to the switch kit? Is it safe to run the fans the whole time the car is on?

Or should I not even bother with a switch and wait until I have a tuner to tell what temps to turn the fans on?

No relay needed. SLP makes something that plugs into an existing harness and runs a switch to inside the car. It's safe to run it all the time. If you're worried about it cooling off too much, then don't your thermostat is there to keep the engine warm. You can save some money if you don't want to buy the SLP kit. There are DIY write-ups on this, I've seen somewhere.

I have been trying to decipher this mystery for a bit... So why would you want the engine warm? What benefit is provided? i.e. what is the problem w/cooling it too much? Apart from heat in the winter.

I see you have taken quite some time to figure it out... He sounded like he was worried about the car if the fans were running all the time. Cars run more efficientat a certain temperature. Manufacturers put in thermostats to help the engine reach these temperatures. The cars don't necessarily perform better, but run more efficient. PCM calls for more fuel at cooler temperatures, and less fuel at thetemperature the manufacturers decided was optimum. There isnothing wrong with running a cooler engine, but you use just a little more fuel than you would with the stock one.

Thanks, I think that's the most sense I have heard on this topic... I think many people don't understand this...
