Default catback question

I have a borla catback system for my 2000 ss and I want to know if it would be better if I changed the tubing that go's over the rear axle to a straight pipe that go's straight to the muffler will I get a little more hp,mileage or better sound thanks.

Unless you plan to dump the exhaust out ahead of the rear wheels, you will need a pipe bent to go over the top of the rear axle. Can't see how to get to the muffler with a straight pipe without hitting the axle.

That should be a 3 inch pipe and there would be no gain by going to a straight pipe under the axel (not that you would notice anyways). I have seen true dual systems that go under the rear axel but they are 2.5 tubes and will compromise ground clearance. I think it's cool that you want to improve the performance of your car but I have a feeling your going about it the wrong way. Do a google search for "LS1 free mods" and you see some stuff that is free (or almost free) that has been proven to give you about 8-10 rwhp.

You hit the nail on the head, JD. I didn't even consider running the pipes under the axle, because of the reason you stated. Pipes under the axle over a bumpy road make a very poor combination.
